Preview: The Chapman Family @ The Shipping Forecast – TOMORROW! (26.06.12)

Lazy Genius Presents… The Chapman Family w/The Temps/Get Back Colquitt/The Probes/Silent Devices/Gospel DJs – 26.06.12 @ The Shipping Forecast

After a stunning performance at Liverpool Sound City 2011, riotous art rockers The Chapmen Family return to the city to play The Shipping Forecast on Tues 26th June. Following the release of last year’s acclaimed debut album ‘Burn This Town’, the band’s new EP ‘Cruel Britannia’ due on 18th June has racking up excellent reviews. Drowned in Sound described the release as ‘the band’s strongest collection of songs to date’ in a 9/10 write-up while the NME stated ‘their doomy post-punk has lost none of its vitriol’. Released against the backdrop of the Jubilee Celebrations and continuing economic gloom, the band have found plenty to inspire their provocative, razor-sharp lyrics.

Renowned for the frenetic energy of their live shows, the intimate confines of The Hold will be the perfect place to experience The Chapman Family’s intense, politically charged songs up close. Main support comes from brittle post-punk Liverpool quartet The Temps. Building on their local live following, debut single ‘Soup’, released back in February was described as ‘a thumping heartwrecker of single… they’re at their bleakest best’ by Peter Guy at GetIntoThis.

Also featured are rising Liverpool indie rockers Get Back Colquitt, whose debut EP ‘Behind the Green Door’ has been steadily winning acclaim with Seven Streets hailing it as ‘a cocky slice of hi-octane indie pop’. The Probes and Silent Devices along with Gospel DJs spinning tunes between sets complete a superb bill.
